What shelf-life information is included on ham's packaging?

Packaged ham may carry a "sell by" or "use by" date determined by the processor. With the exception of certain poultry, baby food products and formulas, "sell by" and "use by" dates aren't required by the federal government. Assuming dates are specified on packaging, they are about quality rather than safety. “Sell by” and “use by” do not mean the food is spoiled or unsafe to eat immediately after that date.
