Rice

Rice is the most important staple product for much of the world’s  human population, providing more than 1/5 of the caloric intake for people worldwide.  Fortunately for  millions in poorer countries, white rice contains little moisture and therefore can keep for extended periods of time. However, brown rice must put in an airtight container and stored in a cool, dry environment. Because it contains oil, brown rice will only keep a fraction of the time that white rice lasts. Six months is about as long as it will last.
