Is the tomato a fruit or a vegetable? Technically, it's classified as a fruit because it has seeds. However, cooks use it as a vegetable--meaning for savory applications rather than sweet ones. Hence, the confusion. However, there's no question about the flavor and nutrition fresh tomatoes bring to everything from soups and salads to juices and pasta sauces. Of course, you can also eat them plain.
