How can I avoid getting sick from a bacterial illness?

To avoid getting sick from a bacterial illness, keep foods clean, keep them cold if they require refrigeration, cook them thoroughly if they require cooking, avoid cross-contamination between raw and cooked foods, wash your hands often, and sanitize your work surfaces.
