Is it safe to use plastic wrap as a covering when microwaving food?

By Susan Brewer, Ph.D., University of Illinois,

Some plastic wraps are microwave-safe, but read the package to be sure. Waxed paper, cooking bags, parchment paper, and white microwave-safe paper towels are safe to use in the microwave. However, any plastic product that is not marked as microwave-safe should not be used in the microwave.
