Lettuce

 Like many fresh, leafy vegetables, lettuce is highly perishable, particularly if it isn't refrigerated shortly after purchase. Packaged lettuce boasts a much longer shelf life than unpackaged lettuce-- longer than many believed possible just a few years ago. However, the same rules for storage and handling apply to both packaged and unpackaged formats, and it’s important to follow these rules.
