What do all the terms on bottled water labels—such as artesian water, purified water, and distilled water—actually mean?

These terms describe the water’s characteristics, sources, and/or methods of treatment. For example, artesian water comes from an underground aquifer which may or may not be treated. Distilled water is made from the recondensed steam of boiling water. Purified water has been treated so that it has only minute quantities of chemicals, and it may also be microbe-free.
