Can I still use milk after its “sell by” date?

The National Dairy Council says properly refrigerated milk usually can be kept for a few days past its “sell by” date but notes that some milk processors guarantee their products for longer periods.

Other dairy industry experts, including Farmland Dairies representative, Emil Nashed, recommend consuming milk before the “sell by” date passes because it’s impossible to tell if the product was compromised by exposure to incorrect temperatures somewhere between the processing plant and the retail cooler.
