Spread

Make yourself a  peanut butter and jelly sandwich, and you've pretty well canvassed some of  the most popular spreads--except for butter and margarine. Despite its name, peanut butter doesn't contain either butter or butter substitutes. It does, however, contain oil, as do butter and margarine. Oil has a tendency to separate at warmer temperatures. With peanut butter, you can simply stir the oil back into the paste. It's not as simple with butter and margarine, which is one reason both should be stored in the refrigerator.
