What does the date on a package of margarine mean?

The date is either a “use by” date indicating the last day that the product is at peak quality, or it is a coded date indicating when the product was manufactured.

Richardson Nutrition’s Canola Harvest margarines display a coded date. For instance, “071G9” would mean the product was made on the 71st day of 2009
