What is the best way to handle just-baked cookies?

Cool the cookies thoroughly before storing them. In dry weather, store crisp or dry cookies in a container with a loose-fitting lid. If the weather is humid, use a container that closes tightly.

Store soft cookies in a container with a tight-fitting cover.  Layer frosted cookies in containers after the frosting has set. Separate the layers of cookies with a sheet of waxed paper so the cookies don't stick together.

Do not mix soft and dry cookies together in the same container. The dry cookies will absorb moisture from soft cookies and become soft as well.

I've heard that you should store cookies with a slice of bread to keep them fresh longer. Is that correct?
