What’s the best way to cut onions?

If you are going to use only part of the onion, don’t remove all of the skin.  Cut off the piece you need and just peel that; the leftover piece will keep longer (in the fridge) if unpeeled.  Use a sharp  unserrated knife; that will cut rather than mash the onion. Wash only the part you’re using.
