Is there any risk of illness from eating a slice of bread?

It depends on what it's made of. Some breads are made with ingredients such as milk, soy, eggs, or nuts, all of which can trigger severe reactions among those who are allergic or sensitive to them. Check the ingredient label to ensure the bread doesn't contain ingredients that can trigger an allergic reaction among you or family members. Heating, toasting, or freezing the bread won't alter the outcome.

Bread is subject to mold growth. As its name suggests, bread mold is a type of fungus commonly found on bread surfaces. The source is wind spores that sprout and grow hair-like structures under moist conditions. Because bread molds can release mycotoxins, which can cause illness, do not eat moldy bread, particularly if you have an immune-system disorder.
