Should a can of fruit be discarded if I see a dent or bulge on it?
Dents along the side panel of the can, meaning away from the can's seam, do not denote problems with the fruit. Never purchase or consume a product when a dent is located along the seam.
Discard cans that are swollen or leaking, as well as cans that spurt when you open them. These are signs of gas, a byproduct of bacterial growth.
Mind the old adage, "When in doubt, throw it out."
