Is it safe to eat guacamole once the top layer turns brown?

Yes, assuming no more than three days have passed since store-bought guacamole was opened or homemade guacamole was prepared. Simply scrape away the brown layer. Avocado pulp, meaning the meat of the avocado, is very sensitive to oxygen. When exposed to air, the pulp oxidizes and turns brown.
