If one slice of bread has mold on it, is it safe to eat another slice from the same loaf?

It's not a good idea. Because bread is very porous, mold can spread quickly and easily, particularly in preservative-free varieties. Simply scraping off the mold isn't a good idea either. That's because mold has roots that remain active below bread's surface. If you see signs of mold, it's best to pitch the entire loaf since some molds are toxic. To avoid mold, store bread in a cool, dry place.
