How should raw tomatoes be stored?

Tomatoes should be stored at room temperature until they are ripe, after which they should be refrigerated at a temperature of 40°F or slightly lower.  They will keep longer in the low-humidity bin, but they aren’t going to last a long time even there.  Assuming they were ripe when you refrigerated  them, they will continue to “ripen” in the refrigerator and get soft.

Do not wash tomatoes prior to storing them;  residual moisture may promote bacterial spoilage or mold growth.
