How should prepackaged store-bought soups be cooked?

Because potentially harmful bacteria are killed at high temperatures, soups and other canned goods should be boiled for up to five minutes at a temperature of 185°F or higher. Cooking times may vary for microwaveable soups. These soups often come in plastic containers or bowls. Before the soup is microwaved, the seal is either peeled back or removed for venting. Carefully follow microwaving instructions.
