How should citrus fruits be stored?

Most citrus fruits can be stored in the pantry or the refrigerator. However, more fragile citrus fruits such as tangerines should be refrigerated.   Refrigerated citrus fruits will keep up to 3  weeks. Fruits stored at room temperature will keep for only 4-5 days. Do not refrigerate citrus fruits in an airtight plastic bag or container. Doing so will cause condensation and accelerate deterioration of the fruit. Instead, store the fruits in a bag that contains several small holes.

Do not wash citrus fruits prior to storing them. Residual moisture can result in spoilage or mold growth.
