Does sour cream contain preservatives that make it last longer?

Some commercial brands of sour cream don’t contain preservatives; in others, potassium sorbate and sodium benzoate inhibit mold and other micro-organisms. Preservatives don’t necessarily ensure an extended shelf life—sanitary processing and chilled storage are more critical, maintains food scientist Dr. Robert Bradley.
