Can salt go bad?

The answer is a resounding NO.  It is chemically stable.  It doesn’t degrade or become stale.  That’s why there’s probably no expiration date on your package of salt.   Salt is a preservative  used to extend the shelf life of other products. However,  the Morton Salt folks point out,  its “free-flowing, usable life can be limited by caking or lumping of salt crystals due to moisture.”
