Can I and/or should I store tea in the refrigerator or freezer?

All sources were adamantly opposed to storage in the freezer, and most of them against the refrigerator, but according to some, green tea is a special case. At O-Cha.com, for example, the recommendation is to store unopened bags of tea leaves in the refrigerator, where they will be good for six months. Hibiki-an.com similarly suggests that the refrigerator will keep its tea fresh six months longer than if it’s unrefrigerated. These timelines are only for unopened packages.
