Can butter be frozen?

Salted butter can be frozen for 4-9 months. Replace wax paper with foil or plastic if you plan to freeze it for several months. The National Dairy Council recommends freezing unsalted butter for a maximum of 5 months.

Many people find that the hard texture of thawed butter is fine for cooking but not really suitable for general use, says food scientist Franco Milani.
