What storage methods help cottage cheese remain fresh?

Proper refrigeration--40° F or below--is vital to ensure the best possible shelf life for cottage cheese.
Here are tips from industry experts:

  • At the supermarket, put cottage cheese last on your shopping list.
  • Check that the container feels chilled, and isn’t bulging, leaking or otherwise damaged.
  • Get the product home as quickly as possible.
  • Never expose cottage cheese to room temperature for longer than 2 hours or 1 hour if the temperature is 90° F or higher.
