What about wheat allergies?

Some people develop an allergy to the gluten proteins.  This can result in itching, hives, asthma, difficulty breathing, and shock. It can also result in celiac disease which can cause  diarrhea, abdominal pain, and abdominal bloating. As with any other allergy, the solution is to avoid the agent to which you are allergic.  Grains such as wheat and rye contain gluten-forming proteins.  In order for people who are sensitive to these proteins to be able to avoid products containing them, anything containing wheat must be labeled with a “warning” label.  Many products are labeled “gluten free.”
