How should fresh summer squash be handled while preparing it?

Wash your hands for 20 seconds with warm water and soap before and after preparing summer squash. Likewise, wash cutting boards, utensils, and other implements before and after preparing the squash. Thoroughly wash the squash prior to slicing it. This will minimize the potential for transferring bacteria from the outer rind to inner fruit during slicing.

Peeling summer squash isn't necessary.

Summer squash is versatile--suitable for steaming, grilling, boiling, frying, sautéing, or stir-frying, regardless of the variety.
