Does whipped cream cheese last longer than regular cream cheese?

Whipped cream cheese in a tub usually lasts 3-4 months, like regular cream cheese. Manufacturers whip the product with an inert gas (such as nitrogen) because oxygen deteriorates cream cheese. Processors also may boost longevity with sorbic acid or a combination of nitrogen and antimicrobial agents.

Whipped cream cheese also comes in an aerosol can. This variety has a longer shelf life than tubs and brick packs. A can of regular or flavored Old Fashioned Foods’ “Ready Fresh Cream Cheese” lasts up to 12 months in the refrigerator.
